Adjust touch pad sensitivity.
I'm trying to adjust my touch pad sensitivity.
I am unable to locate it the control panel.
How or where do I locate my touch pad sensitivity control?

Hi,
If you're using a Synaptics Touchpad, try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Mouse, click the Device Settings tab and then click the Settings button. Click the + sign next to Pointing, click the + sign next to Sensitivity and then click Touch Sensitivity to be able to adjust this setting using the horizontal scale. When you have it set as you wish, click Apply and OK, then click Apply and OK in the remaining window.

There is no "device settings" tab in the mouse properties. That is a fact.
There is button configuration, double-click speed, click-lock, pointers, wheel, and hardware.
Do you have any other ideas?

Hi,
Can you post back with the full Model No. and Part No. of your notebook ( this information can be found on the service tag underneath your machine ).

Hi,
Download and install the latest Synaptics software and driver on the link below.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49392
After the installation has completed, restart the notebook and then refer to my earlier post to see if you can now adjust the sensitivity.

Hello, I was having the exact same problem. I downloaded the driver, and then "device settings" appeared in the mouse control panel, but the rest of the items that you described weren't there. any other avenues that i can try? (or could there be some other reason that my mouse keeps jumping around? I don't notice my hand touching the touchpad when it jumps, but maybe it's just REALLY sensitive...) THANK YOU!!

I recently purchased a ProBook 4530s and found the Synaptics touchpad unduly sensitive. It seemed to have a mind of its own, sometimes selecting whatever was under the cursor, even though I hadn't touched the pad.
I tried to adjust it using the Synaptics tab under Mouse settings, but the only item that appeared when I clicked Settings was "Buttons". I finally got it through my thick skull that, on current machines, the Synaptics touchpad is two devices, the pad and the buttons, as shown in the list box. To configure the pad, you have to highlight the pad description. Then, when you click Settings, you get a veritable plethora of pad settings.
The default sensitivity is way too low. The next-higher is a bit too high, but at least you're unlikely to feel like a bull in a china shop. (Which, by the way, Mythbusters has shown to be an invalid simile.)
The rest of the settings are worth exploring. Synaptics offers a lot of functions that are not at all obvious.
