I have a HP Envy 17 and does not read my Blu-ray discs. This has never been a problem before.

Recently all the Blu-ray discs that I have tried to run, will not read.  Not even the discs that I have had no problems with in the past.  I need some help to find out why my driver is not properly reading.

Hello,

Are you able to read any type of disc at all?

Try this MS FIXIT if you cannot,

also if this is not it, can you tell me the Model # of your ENvy 17 ?

I can send you a link to install some new SW.

I am an HP employee.

Same problem envy 17 inch, only 1.5 years old, bought extended warranty from elsewhere because hp costs so much. Only blu rays do not play anymore, all other discs work. Any Ideas? I'm thinking defective product, recall should happen, hp needs to take responsibility, but of course that will never happen. Hve not thought about real action to take, except the only one that seems to be the most wasteful, which is to send in my laptop and get a full replacement. What a waste.

Re: I have a HP Envy 17 and does not read my Blu-ray discs. This has never been a problem before.

Keep posting guys! We want to all know about the envy 17 blu ray failures. Maybe, just maybe, if our spirits are high and our hearts are pure an HP rep will respond (miracles have happened). I had squaretrade repair the blu ray drive (they put in a new lense) and it did not fix anything. This issue goes to the core of the envy manufacturing process. So, after 1 month of repair work they took it back and gave me the full price of the laptop back. If you go with their 3 year care plan, BE PERSISTENT and write reviews on amazon or other sites.

My problem is solved. I used a Ms fix it for the BD ROM and worked. Probably is a Windows Bug.

Re: I have a HP Envy 17 and does not read my Blu-ray discs. This has never been a problem before.

same here for me, the blu-ray player simply won't work.

it reads the disk, but won't play it when i press play repeatedly, i just get the HP media player and a blank screen.

am completely at a loss, i mean, partly disappointed too. i spent a lot of money to buy the envy 17 1050. i would have expected that it would at least have been a little more reliable in this respect! i might add, that i have no problems playing DVDs at all. am toying with the idea of a 'year zero' complete re-boot of the operating system, but am not really in the mood to spend 2-3 days backing up my data and re-installing  all my software!

please help! best, mark.
