I have accessed the recovery partition, what next?

[ Edited ]

I found some info on the HP website that said my Compaq Presario V4000 would have a built-in recovery partition.

I pressed F10 at start up and got a screen with some options like Main, Security, Advanced, Tools. Is this where I access the recovery partition?

If I press F8 at start up I get a screen with options like Safe Mode and Reboot, but i can't see anything that refers to a system recovery.

Where do I find this elusive system recovery tool?

Re: I have accessed the recovery partition, what next?

Fix for Vista/XP HP Recovery Issue

Boot into the Windows installation, go to the start menu, right-click on "computer" or "My Computer" and select manage.

This will launch the Microsoft Management Console.

On the left side of the MMC, click on "Disk Management" and then it will show you all of the partitions and hard drives in the unit.

Right-click on the "HP Recovery" partition and select "Mark as Active Partition."

When the warning prompt appears, select "Yes" - Then reboot the notebook and it will automatically boot into the Recovery Manager without the customer having to press anything.

Perform the recovery as usual and then everything will be normal again.

If possible, Please make the recovery media after the recovery is complete.

This will only work as long as the Recovery Partition hasn't been modified or the "Recovery" file deleted.

If you want to cancel the Recovery after performing the steps above, it will boot back to the Windows installation normally without any problems…Also, once the recovery is complete it will boot to Windows, not the recovery partition.

Re: I have accessed the recovery partition, what next?

Thanks, that looks like good advice.

However, i only have one partition listed under Disk Management  and that appears to be my normal hard drive. I obviously don't have a recovery partition after all.

Thanks for your help!

Re: I have accessed the recovery partition, what next?

Then you have no recovery partition or it is corrupt. You need to get the recovery disk(s).
