Installing win7 cd on dos (How to enable boot from cd) - hp g6 2010ax PLEASE HELP

I just recceived hp g6 2010ax 1 hour ago. It has FREEDOS installed on it. I am a noob and I don't know how to enter BIOS and enable boot from cd on a DOS machine. I do have the win7 cd though. When I turn on my laptop, it takes me to the screen where I have to choose language

ex: 0 for english

       1 for french

and at the end F8:smileysurprised:FF

I pressed F8 to turn it on but when I restarted my computer, it was 'OFF' again. I still have the win7 cd loaded in the cd drive. Can you please give me step by step instruction for dummies on how to

- open bios

-Enable boot from cd .
-make primary boot device is cd-rom
-save and exit

on HP Pavilion G6-2010AX laptop with FREEDOS. I need help!

[ Edited ]

Press the power button and immediately begin tapping the Esc key to enter the start menu.

Amongst the choices there should be the F9 key to alter the boot choices.

Choose the DVD\CD-ROM drive.

Your notebook should restart and boot to the installation DVD.

This manual has helpful information for use of your notebook. See page 77 for how to change the boot order.

Re: Installing win7 cd on dos (How to enable boot from cd) - hp g6 2010ax PLEASE HELP

I did exactly those things, it asked me to select language on win7 and then there was "install now" button. As soon as I clicked on it, it said "setup is starting"

then it immediately shut down! I tried to press the power button to turn it back on, but it isn't even turning on now?

Is it because the charger was plugged in during the installation or is the computer supossed to restart automatically as soon as you press "install now" button?

Why isn't the power on button working now?

And was I supposed to change something in "BIOS" before selecting the cd/dvd drive?

Re: Installing win7 cd on dos (How to enable boot from cd) - hp g6 2010ax PLEASE HELP

Hi,

Sometimes, as you have discovered, installing Windows 7 from a DVD can be a bit difficult for various reasons. If you were able to boot from the Windows 7 DVD, then you did everything you needed to do.

I highly recommend that you use USB thumbdrive media for a speedy and reliable install of Windows 7. You will need a USB thumbdrive that is 4GB capacity.

You will need to create it with Microsoft's own utiity on another PC running Windows 7 or 8. Download and run the Windows 7 USB DVD Download tool from the Microsoft store.

The download link and use instructions are on the web page in the previous link. You will need your Microsoft Windows 7 DVD and license key (during the Windows 7 installation process).

Best regards,

erico

problem with graphics

One more thing, I have been using this for a while now and after installing all the drivers, I have noticed that the videos I play distort for 3-4 secs if I open anying other than the media player. It has 1.5GB graphics and 6 gb ram , I don't understand why videos will break every now and then. My old computer had 2gb ram and no graphics and the videos still played smoothly.

Do I need to change some settings with the graphics driver. Is there any guide on how I can make the most of 6 gigs ram and 1.5 gb graph (I edit videos on adobe prem/effects). If it can't even play a non-hd video properly, how can it edit hd videos? Can you please provide me with settings that can help me make the best of it. Do I need to enable/disable anything?

Re: problem with graphics

How is your notebook configured?

Does it have switchable graphics or not?

My loaner HP Envy17-3002ea has switchable graphics in the form of a AMD\ATI Radeon HD6700M discrete graphics module and an  integrated Intel HD3000 Graphics chip.

Best regards,

erico

Hi,

If you are playing a video file that is streaming ,then the stuttering might be caused by your internet connection.

One thing to try is disabling hardware accaleration for the video adapter you are using to view the video.

Does this issue happen with DVDs and when watching online videos?

Best regards,

erico
