My dv4-1220us will make a clicking sound when I plug it in and won't turn on. It'll turn on for a quick second then power off. I'm assuming this is just a battery issue... help?! I need my laptop!

Could be from a number of things causing the issue. Check battry make sure it getting good connection add is tightly installed check ecectrical cord all connection are tight. Than turn on computer and press F-8 key if safe mode screen display. Then you know it is a virus or bad malware caused the issue. Take proper steps to remove virus or malware. If unable to get it to stay on long enough to open in safe mode. Than you know the problem is a hardware isue. Then you need to get it serviced.

How can malware or a virus keep a PC from starting? Its not even giving a POST screen.
This is just nonsense.
ASarkissian, see this page for some tips, if you cannot get it to start using these, then it needs to go to a reputable repair shop.
If it is still under HP warranty:
Contact HP directly, they will guide you on what to do next to get it repaired under warranty

Well then Mumbodog explain this to me then same issue this lap top had will not start up and kept shutting down. I got it to catch f-8 finely got it into safe mode. Ran disc deframeter and ran security scans went through C drive and found files that were installed the night before it happened. With that date. So as I deleted them they would reinstall them self. From google files something. Soon as I deleted them. They finely stop installing them self so afterwards I restored the computer to a back date. When the recovery was finished I check the c drive making sure all malware files were removed. They were back all the files I deleted found the mother file I was unable to delete it. So I shut down the computer and preformed a F-12 recovery to factory settings. Since than no troubles with the computer. That is why I posted press F-8 and see if he could get it into safe mode. Because the kid here ignored Trends tool bar warning. This new malware is very distrustful corrupts start up files.

Original quote from the OP
" It'll turn on for a quick second then power off. "
No way this is a OS or virus issue.

Mum's correct!!!
It sounds like something has shorted out.
If it is not under warranty.
Cannibalize the laptop.
Remove battery, HDD, CD, WiFi card and if it has 2 memory cards remove one!!!
Then try to boot to bios.
What you want to do is eliminate all peripheral devices.
I have even disconnected the LCD cable at the motherboard and found that the inverter was shutting down the laptop when it was trying to display the splash.
Take the time remove everything you can.
If you do get to bios then replace all removed devices one at a time.
If there is a problem with one of them then you should see your original problem.
Let us know what you find.
