Laptop display

We just bought a laptop and have another monitor hooked up also, for when I work I need two monitors.

My husband doesn't like the two monitors so I am wondering if there is a setting that since I have the big extra monitor as the main display, I would be able to close the laptop and it would remain on the large monitor and he can play his games without the laptop blaring at him?
