Left touch pad.

Hi! The  left touch pad on my Hp pavilion laptop has become loose. it still works but it rocks back and forth.

When I had had the computer for less than a week, I took it back to the store for the same thing and it was replaced.

I didn't take out the extended warranty but wondered if this was a common problem with this laptop and if it will eventually stop working.

I was told not to use this pad all the time but to use the larger one above it but I like to play games and I do take care how I use it but using the larger pad just doesn't work with the games.

Re: Left touch pad.

Hi,

I think you have answered you own question.

The part has been replaced once already.

You use it for gaming - something for which it is clearly NOT intended.

The part is already loose.

I don't know what kind of notebook you have.  I am not sure it matters since all notenbooks have either one kind of TouchPad or the other kind of ClickPad.

Now, having said all that... do you have any alternatives to destroying the parts on your notebook?

For example,

  • Can you buy a "Game Pad" (or ??)  to attach to the notebook via a USB cable?

Finally, once you do destroy the TouchPad entirely and the notebook is no longer under warranty (or you can no longer get it fixed under warranty due to abuse), then be assured that for some notebooks there are parts available and you could fix the TouchPad yourself.

Go to

Support and Drivers

Enter your notebook Product number,

Look for your Manuals... See if there is a Service Manual for your notebook.

If there is one, download it for later in case you need it.

You might be able to buy the Extended Warranty even now... though I wouldn't admit you are abusing the hardware.  Smiling.

I hope this helps...

Good Luck!

Re: Left touch pad.

Thanks for your reply.  I don't play games excessively on it.  My last laptop lasted 5yrs and the one before I had 4yrs and passed it on to my grandchildren.

Seems like they are not made as sturdy as they used to be.

I will find an alternative to play my games.

I do agree the units may not be made as well as in the past. I have an eight year old notebook that has never required repair... I have a couple more nearly that old and still going strong... And a new one that was sent to me with a DOA component. Ah, well... Good luck!

Re: Left touch pad.

I have looked on the internet and this seems to be a common problem with this laptop.

No wonder Curry's made  a point about me not wanting to take out extended warranty.  She was rather rude in fact when I took it back for repair.

I am 64yrs old so I am hardy abusing the computer just playing games which involve using the mousepad.

Should have researched a bit better before I bought an HP computer.

Re: Left touch pad.

Hi,

There is no excuse for rudeness.

In my Opinion, this is worth a phone call to HP.

The unit should be in good repair.  If the part is not in working order, it needs service.

In my Opinion:  HP will stand behind the warranty that you do have on that unit.  I think HP will repair it - it does not matter where you purchased it.  You may have to pay for shipping and all.  I do not believe that you should be treated with less than courtesy just because the computer is in need of service.

Please do call HP and check your options.  I have been doing business with HP for many years, both as an IT professional and now as a private consumer.  I have never been treated with anything but respect and courtesy.  If you do not get what you want the first time, ask to speak with someone else until you can speak with someone in the office with whom you can communicate effectively.

Good Luck!

Re: Left touch pad.

I have an HP DV4-1125nr laptop which had the same problem twice. It has a cheap plastic spring under the lower top cover which holds the left button up in place. The whole top cover has to be replaced to replace the spring. There have been several posts on this in the past.

Re: Left touch pad.

I hate plastic when it is used as a substitute for a real part. It is disappointing. This is more reason to have that unit fixed. A message unsent is a message not received.
