However, obviously I have no Windows XP disc as it came preinstalled.
It's an HP DV9088EA.
How should I go about it?

Does F11 work? Those systems came with a recovery partition you can access by tapping F11 as you power up assuming the partition is not corrupted.
HP may still have an XP recovery disk for that model but only the very earliest dv9000s came with XP.
If you use F11 you will need to run PC Decrapifier (google it-I am not making up the name) and also do lots of Windows XP updates but it should all work.
