Loud noise coming from the fan area

I have an HP G61-429WM laptop and since a couple of days ago it started making really loud noises where the fan is. At first, I thought that maybe the fan needed to be cleaned so I opened it up as much as I could and it looked pretty clean. The laptop also doesn't seem to be overheating and it doesn't happen all the time. What else could be the problem?
