Re: My computer's computer fan runs constantly?

I have the same problem... I've only had the computer for about 8 months and it is still under warrenty... it has a built in "riser" to lift if off the surface... and it always runs hot and the fan is always on... could it be that I have too many files on it?

Re: My computer's computer fan runs constantly?

I don't think that the problem is too many files.  The fan will run all the time, but at different speeds. The harder you use your computer the faster the fan will run. In standby the fan should drop down to low speed after a while. If you think you still have a problem , check with whoever you purchased it from because it is probably still under warranty.

Re: My computer's computer fan runs constantly?

Thanks!  I just hate to lose a day of the computer...it's my lifeline...professionally...

I bought it from Costco and they extended the warrenty for a year -- so I should have a year and several months left... I was thinking maybe there would be someone I could "hire" for $100-$200 that could "fix" it in a day...

There surely is a business in that for someone!  Again, though, thanks for your help!  Good advice!

Re: My computer's computer fan runs constantly?

I have a G56-126NR, is there an after market fan that will just run quieter?  I mean I'm in college and when the fan kicks into full gear after 10 mins of use, the noise is so noticably annoying I feel obligated to turn it off.

Re: My computer's computer fan runs constantly?

Aledrell:  You may want to get it checked out locally. Its possible something is wrong with the fan and an expert could determine that real fast. You could probably get this done free and then decide if and where you can get it fixed.

Re: My computer's computer fan runs constantly?

I'm rather tech savvy, having replaced several components within laptops in the past.  Lets assume the fan is just louder than other laptops during heavey use, is there an after market option?

Re: My computer's computer fan runs constantly?

I have a HP Pavilion dv6. I also got it from Costco (was made in Shanghai, China!) 18 mos ago. With Costco's extended warranty I'm good until Aug. 2012.

I noticed that the fan runs at very hi speed after I have the My Yahoo Mail open (all the time really) for a few hrs.

Once I close the Y!Mail page the fan calms down...until I reopen the mail page.

It looks to me as if the Yahoo program eats up a lot of CPU and RAM resources.

I run Windows 7 (64), with 6GB RAM and use IE9.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Re: My computer's computer fan runs constantly?

I discovered the old cooling tray I had for some yrs now. I put it under my laptop and it turned on...my laptop fan almost stopped and the "hot spot" to the rear left, went to just warm in seconds.

I unplugged the USB (the old fan was too noisy) and so I used the tray without the fan running...still stayed cool.

That gave me an idea (since the tray is kind of geeky looking) and I inserted a old 12 inch ruler (the triangular cross section type) and basically lifted the rear of the laptop.

Miracles never cease! The machine is running quiet and cool!

HP engineers: Your cooling methods needs reevaluating. In the meantime how about if you sell your machines with a 12" ruler - of the triangular type:-)

Or built your laptops with those little flip-out "legs" in the rear...like many key boards have.

See att'd picture of my pride and joy...
