My hp support assistant keeps locking up and won't load what should i do?

for the last month my support assistant has not worked. it try's to open all the time and locks my laptop up. all that comes up is a black box on my screen . Today it appeared on my taskbar and says i have an important update but still wont open.  What can i do? should i remove it, if so how?  or is there a way to fix it.  HP support online has been very unhelpful i am wishing i went with the toshiba now.

Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall HP Support Assistant from the list. Restart the computer and install latest HP Support Assistant  from here

I followed the step and it worked like a champ.  One thing however, why does my product name, serial number and product number say loading and it never changes?

Turn OFF the Notebook and once its powered ON, keep Pressing F10 to load BIOS screen of the Notebook. In this screen check if you can see product and serial number of your notebook.

I see it in the BIOS.
