So i wanted to change my SATA to AHCI mode.. I entered the BIOS but there were no options to do so.

I Have an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook, my motherboard's model is 181B

I found this in an application i downloaded, does that mean i can't change it to AHCI ?

Hi:

AHCI is enabled by default in the BIOS, and there is no way to change it to anything else.

If you look in the device manager, under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section, you should see the drive controller listed as as something-something AHCI controller.

picture you attached is not showing up in the post for some reason however SATA mode is always AHCI enabled. consumers notebook PCs since 2010 come with SATA (AHCI) mode only and not an option to change it to IDE or nonSATA Native / legacy mode.

most users who want to install older or a newer OS without using a driver,  want to change it to non-SATA or IDE mode. which is not allowed on consumer PCs BIOS anymore.

Hi,

I have a Compaq Presario CQ57 which had Windows 7 on it until I wiped the whole hard drive with kill drive so I could do a clean XP Pro instal to run all my business software.  So all the recovery info is gone and as you know and I discovered, XP won't install until I can make changes to the Bios that dont exist as options.

Have I bricked this thing?  put me out of my mysery..  or will it only take another windows 7 installation

Cheers,

Phil

My Pavillon DV4 has the SATA setting as RAID not ACHI.  My SSD performance tests are terrible.

Why would the default be RAID on a single drive system?

Neglecting to provide correct BIOS system when shipping a PC product.

Basic neglect!!!
