PASSWORD HELP!

Whenever i type in my password for my Mini HP Notebook, it always makes a sound, its the sound that Windows makes when you have an error, or typed something in the incorrect place. But whenever i try to type in where your supposed to type your password, it doesn't type in anything. So basically i can't type in my password.
