Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

Hi!

My daughters HP dv6 has just died in the same way, she struggles to be a doctor and really needs her computer.

I guess that based on your story, that I'm very glad that you shared with us, I do need to take up the war on HP.

It is very likely that HP will response in the same way here in Sweden, remember, "Ignorance is a bliss". :smileyvery-happy:

I develop software and electronics professionally, and I would be ashamed to release a product with such a poor design.

I hope your HP works, and that you got a cooling plate...

Best Regards

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

Well, here is how it works in Sweden.

I called the support center, and they would absolutely NOT help my 16 year old daughter with her purchase.

It cost her $1000 US dollars by today's value, and a large company like HP, would actually turn down a 16 year old girl, that striven by her self to buy that crap computer.

The HP support asked me to buy a support fee of 230 Kr (US $ 37, 15), to talk to a technician.

Otherwise, we could also contact the retailer for help.

I gave the proposal of contacting "PLUS", a TV show in Sweden that investigates companies that treats customers unfairly.

Then she hang up on me.

How's that for professional behaviour.

How does "Total Care" fit into this?

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

Hello!

I must say that I'm very impressed with HP support.

After my first encounter the support contacted me and wanted to look at my daughters LapTop.

They fixed it, and she is very happy, and overjoyed over her fixed computer.

It works like clockwork, and alla data on the hard drive is still there, all her school work was intact.

We did have a copy on a USB stick, but still...

I wish to thank HP for helping my daughter, this really makes a difference for her school and future.

Very proffesional, very well done.

Best Regards.

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

Same exact issue I am having with my dv6-1260se. Just crapped out on me a few days ago.

Powered up and a second later it just shuts off.

I just got off the phone with customer support in india, all he was pushing for is to sell me an extended warranty.

He even offered me a deal for half the price, he said. And I told him I spent over a grand for this piece of crap, and I am not going to shell out another dime.

His name is Manas Ghosh, in case anyone happens to get him on the line.

Without upgrading the warranty, there isn't much he could do for me.

HP really needs to own up to their lemons and fix their crappy laptops.

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

[ Edited ]

Guys, {Content Removed: legal discussion} this EXACTLY happened to my girlfriend, the battery started not holding its charge, we just thought ok maybe we need to discharge it entirely and recharge it for 24 hours (like a lot of companies say) did that might have fixed it a little but literally within days after 12 months of original purchase the battery died. My girlfriend didn't (is very shy) just bought another battery no questions asked (imagine how many people actually do this?!?! ) and guess what, it JUST DIED DAYS AGO, AGAIN within DAYS after the warranty has expired, this is BEYOND a coincidence guys and girls, just with my girlfriends case, 1? But not 2 in a row, and now I've read all over forums etc its happening also, its called PLANNED obsolescence. {Content Removed: legal discussion} this is beyond a joke corporations ripping the consumer off like this, I'm furious and so should you be,

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

I have one of the same problem's, i bought my HP Pavillion DV6 for x-mas in 2010 and booted it up for the first time on the 2512-2012 and was all good for a while, Little did i no, even though the RAM is "adequite" for most user's my fan contantly over-heats and can literally burn me and causes blisters as if someone has held a match to my skin ! I rang HP about this and all they did was open it, and say there was nothing wrong and send it back, i now have a externa cooling fan, but itt doesnt do anything and it would not surprise me if, my laptop got so hot the stupid thing melted, I had heard such great things about HP's product's in particular the DV6 so i am extremely dissapointed and if i could, i would take this ridiculous product back and get something else, in my opinion, a 15 year old laptop would be better then these crap DV6's.. Extremely disapointed HP, i will NEVER buy your products again

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

I had someone call me from HP about mine, thing is they got out of it of course, like you.

I complained about 2 batteries going JUST after their warranty period both times, (the 2nd one was just a replacement from a 3rd party website hp batteries I beleive, whether it was genuine or not I do not know but does not matter)

First HP battery died literally days after the warranty, my girlfriend didn't know what to do since it was outside the warranty so just went online typed in the model of the battery and bought another.

Second one died within a week after the warranty lapsing.

Whether geniune or a copy both died JUST after the warranty period (copies just copy the exact design of the original anyhow, plus not to mention the first genuine did the exact same thing)  oh and PS the computer gets EXTREMLY hot just under NORMAL browsing the internet etc use, not even gaming etc.

After I got the phone call from HP they insist I provide receipts, which I did not have (girlfriend registered the warranty with them anyhow) so they could tell the dates so was no reason to ask for them at all apart from providing a loop hole for compensation.

Basically was told nothing was wrong with the machine which I replied "Do you even look at your own forums, that plus hundreds of others out there saying they are having the EXACT same problem"  again was denied anything was wrong with the laptop.

No laptop has EVER got that hot I have owned, my ASUS I play GAMES on all day every day and never gets close to as hot as hers and she is just surfing the web and doing EMAIL.

I'm still on my original battery just over 3 years later, she has gone through 2 in 24 months.

There was a bad batch of batteries already which had a recall on them cause they got way to hot and could cause damage due to the heat, but proof from continuing threads on forums and people I speak to and see it is the computer design itself.

And to top it all off all I wanted is a free battery and was STILL denied!

She is now stuck with the computer being constantly plugged in like a desktop! And it gets slower and slower each day.

In my experience from owning , building computers and running a computer shop for 10 years + is that the components are just getting to hot (like the battery) and are slowly dying before their due time (unless HP did Planned obsolescence like apple did and got sued for it)

I'm still trying to get this solved, otherwise I will be posting this on every forum I can possible find to avoid HP in the future and turn as many people off them as possible with stating everything I have just said with the problems I and many others have come across.

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

HP has got to be THE worst Laptop company out there they are selfish, i tried ringing Customer Service and Demanded a refund of my product as it is still in warranty ( 2 years extended when bought on 24-10-2010and is valid through to X-mas this year ) they pretty much told me to piss of, When i had called i told them again about my battery issue and they said it's my fault that it's over heating, all i do is browse internet and E-mail ( as you have said Velphick 1) play the occasional game that comes WITH the laptop, and watch movies, i should also mention i have a Cool Master external fan running around the clock with all 3 fan's directed across the hottest sections of the laptop to try and counter the heat but to no avail, I am consiering taking my laptop to a HP store and if i dont get a refund, throwing it at their products whilst i rant about how crappy their service is and product maintenance ( Childish yes, but im sick of it, as is everyone else )

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

I have a DV6 and I agree wholeheartely that the power issue is a big concern with me. Not sure that they could really call this a "portable" notebook (the battery life and overheating make it near on impossible to use as a portable device).

I have bought a cooling pad for it, still no good. I can't play Sims 3 on the machine ... the computer heats up too much and shuts down automatically about 10 minutes into the game (so much for me buying a computer with better specs to run such features).

The other big issue I have is that the top left corner cracks and separates from the laptop (the left hand hinge becomes lose at the same time). I have had this fixed twice already, and is now due for a third fix up (apparently a known issue that they fix freely, but a little annoying). I personally think this is due to the overheating issue as it is the same corner as the fan and where it gets unbearable hot.

After this notebook my wife and I have decided not to buy a HP notebook again (I have read on forums since purchasing this that HP are notorious for overheating issues). Sorry HP but you have lost a customer with me (I personally have had no issues with their customer support ... just their product is below standard, especially for a "premium" manufacturer).

Re: Pavilion DV6 overheats, chews battery and now will not power up

I have a dv6 and have the heat problem. I got the thing for free and just thought it was abused.

I hope it last me a few months atleast.

I would like to say...

I had a HP laptop from 2006-2010. I used that thing all the time. I played world of warcraft on it.

Spent many hours a day playing. Used sound graphics never had a problem with it.

It was the best computer ive had. I hope they continue to sell good products and dont go with cheap ones made by others with the HP name put on them.

for now im a proud HP owner.
