My machine is generally functioning just fine, except for one annoying thing: on my previous Pavilion (dv4-1435dx), it showed the HP logo and a little message that let me know I could press F2 or whatever to enter the BIOS setup screen.
But on this machine all I get is a black screen, which makes it very hard to know when to start pressing whatever function key is needed.
Is there a way to turn this back on, or was it never available on this model?
If anyone knows anything, your help is appreciated!

I think HP disabled this by default on newer bios versions, use F10 to enter the bios and see if there is a setting you can change to return the splash screen, or use ESC key to show it for that boot cycle.
Key options for newer HP notebooks, all may work on yours
ESC = Display Boot Screen
F1 = System Information
F2 = System Diagnostics
F9 = Boot manager
F10 = Bios setup
F11 = HP System Recovery
F12 = Network Boot
After you use F10 to enter the bios use F9 to load bios defaults.

Thank you for responding. This has been driving me crazy. I'm glad to know that it's not because there's anything wrong with the machine.

I don't know why HP decided to do this, probably to speed up boot times, that and to confuse people.
You are welcome.

Yes, but it doesn't actually speed up anything, it just seeks to confuse people.
I'm glad to have my splash screen back!
