Pavillion dv2500 laptop won't turn on [ Edited ]

Hi, I would appreciate any help you can offer.  With battery installed, ac adapter plugged in, I press the power button. The power indicator led is lit.  The lightning bolt is not lit.  The dvd led goes on and off for a split second.  The led's on the keyoard across the top are all lit.  It sounds like the fan comes on and spins.  All I have is a black screen.  Can someone tell me how to troubleshoot this.  It appears that windows updated files on our other computers last night.  Please, what do I do?

It is a long shot but try a hard reset. Remove the battery and AC adapter and memory and anything else you know how to remove. Hold down the power button 30 seconds. Put one memory stick back in and plug in the AC but nothing else. See if it comes to lfe. If not you are seeing the motherboard issues that have plagued this product line.

I've been having the same problem with mine for about a month. All of a sudden one day it wouldn't turn on regardless if the AC was plugged in or not. Eventually if I pressed( played with) the power button long enough it turns on and works fine, until I shut it down, then its right back to the same issue. Never spilt anything on it or dropped it. Not sure what the deal is but it's frustrating for sure.
