Problem finding Vista driver for InkJet 930c printer

[ Edited ]

Hi all!

I am trying to connect my old HP 930c inkjet printer to my HP Notebook, but the Windows Vista can't find any printer for this and just refer to th HP home page. On the HP home page they only write that the default printer driver in Vista should be used?! So I think that this default driver has in some way been deactivated. Are there any way of "activating" the default printer driver in Vista again?

Thanks!

Hi,

There is no Vista driver for your printer. The support page for your printer states that following:

    • If Windows does not locate a driver, click Cancel , and then proceed to the following steps.
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
  2. Click Hardware and Sound .
NOTE: This step is not necessary in Vista Classic View.
  3. Click Printers .
  4. On the top of the Printers window, click Add a printer . The Add Printer wizard opens.
NOTE: If the User Account Control window opens, click Allow to continue.
  5. Click Add a local printer , and then click Next . The Choose a printer port window opens.
  6. Select Use an existing port , leave the default port of LPT1: (Printer Port) , and then click Next . The Install the printer driver window opens.
  7. Click HP in the list of manufacturers.
  8. Click your HP product in the list of printers, and then click Next . The Name your printer window opens.
NOTE: If your printer is not listed, click HP Deskjet 500c . This alternate driver might provide basic functionality.
  9. Type a name for the product in the Printer name box, or accept the default printer name, and then click Next . The printer driver installs.
  10. After the installation completes, click Print a test page .
  11. Click Finish when the test page prints, or click Troubleshoot if the test page does not print correctly.

Give this a shot. All you will get is basic functionality.

regards,

erico

Problem finding Vista driver for HP LaserJet 4 printer

I followed your thread for the previous question re: finding Vista driver for InkJet 930c printer, applying your answer to the HP 4. I have an HP Pavillion and use Vista 6.06001. I used a Dynex USB to Parallel Converter Cable. I asked for a test sheet and selected the HP 4, but nothing prints. Can you help? Thank you.

Hi,

Well now, that is a very large detail you forgot to mention. Straight USB cable or parallel is simple. This is a bit more complex. Have you installed the bridge driver that should be on the cd that came with the cable?

Click START -> Printers and Faxes
Right-click on your printer and click Properties.
Click the PORTS tab. set up the port type as USB001.

Re: Problem finding Vista driver for HP LaserJet 4 printer

OOPS! I am a novice. I just found the disc in the packaging, put it in the drive.

I followed your directions to set the port type, it was already chosen.

When I right click and then click Install on the USBPRINT file and some of the other files found in the 98SE folder, I get "The INF file you selected does not support this method of installation".

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Problem finding Vista driver for HP LaserJet 4 printer

Hi,

A driver for Windows 95 or 98 is quite unlikely to work in a Vista OS installation. Check the CD for a Vista x64 driver.

Re: Problem finding Vista driver for HP LaserJet 4 printer

Thanks for your patience. The CD has two file folders. One contains: USBMON.DLL, USBPRINT, USBPRINT.SYS. The other has: PPI0905, UPI0905, USBMON.DLL, USBPRINT.SYS. None will allow installation as far as I am able to see.

Thank you,
