Proof of ownership for a stolen laptop

My laptop was stolen, but I remember that I registered with HP and need the serial number, because it used to be a site where you registered your HP products and under warranty they told me this information when I neede repairs. Is no longer under warranty but I need this number to give to the police. Anybody can help me with this. My receipt is long lost.

I tried but somehow it seems I had to pay to have a talk because my product is out of warranty. Perhaps I made a mistake, will try again.
