Question about security

Hi there,

i have a new Elipebook 8530p. For security reasons, i encrypted HDD and i am also using TPM  security. After this i notticed, that cause of drive encryption, laptop speed reduced very much, cannot meassure it but is looks like i am using a 1-2 years older home user laptop. This is terrible.

1)Is this normal to have such a bigdifference after drive encryprion?

2)what i care most is that if someone stoles my laptop(hope never happens) or takes data from a specific folder(hacker via internet for example), at least not to be able to see that data. How could i be 'covered' on this issue best?

drive encrytion will slow down drive read and write access. this is normal.

what are you using as an OS? what are you using for encryption? 

you can use Windows and Bitlocker or you can try TrueCrypt as another possible faster alternative. there are also other different ways of doing it.
