RIPOFF ALERT! $70 for a new AC adaptor - are you kidding!!

After 35 minutes on the phone with "Jason" from New Delhi ("...that's "S" as in Frank, is that correct sir?...") he tells me my AC adaptor for my laptop is out of warranty and cost $70 to replace. Please. The thing probably costs $2.50 to make. I told him to forget it and bought one on Ebay for $8.99 including shipping.

HP will probably tell you that other adaptors aren't Genuine HP Parts! Oh no!I bet they're all made in the same factory and besides, if it didn't work well I could buy six more and still save money.

So true but the cheap ones on ebay are not made in the same factory and are somewhat inferior. Still, they work fine for most people and if you run out of matches at the barbecue just plug it in and start the fire. You get what you pay for but I agree HP replacement parts are not a good value for the consumer. Hard drives are 4-5 times fair market value and memory is in the same range.

Yep and if it breaks or burns your computer who you going to call, the no name ac adapter company? If you didnt like the price thats one thing, but you dont work for hp, manufacture there products etc so you have no idea what it costs to have them made. I agree alot of replacement parts are very expensive, but when it comes to hdd's etc its to give the incentive to just buy a new computer for the most part.

I don't believe what I'm reading. You're saying that HP wants me to buy a new computer when the AC adaptor breaks?!! :smileyvery-happy:So that's why they charge so much?! that's like saying you should buy a new car every 3,000 miles instead of changing the oil.

If anything, it will be an incentive to never  buy an HP product. Ultimately, HP loses much more than it can hope to gain with a business model like this.
