Recover data using eSATA

Hi,
I have a dead hp pavilion dv5 1135ee with an eSATA connector, can I get a cable and transfer the data from the dead laptop to a new one using eSATA?

note: I read somewhere that I should use a hardware enclosure, I bought 2 of them from ebay (sata and IDE) and they both didn't fit.

thank you

Re: Recover data using eSATA

No, that won't work. Are you sure the hard drive is good?

I use one of these to connect the hard drive to another PC to copy data off to another storage device.

Yes, I think my hard disk is ok... so what I have to do is use the enclosure I got with one of those adapters?

Re: Recover data using eSATA

No, that adapter plugs directly to the hard drive, no enclosure needed, its a temporary way to get your data off of the drive, I don't recommend using it all the time.

I recommend it because it works with most all hard drives, enclosures have to be the correct one for your hard drive, its harder to find the correct enclosure.

Your hdd probably has a plastic adapter across the pins which prevent it from plugging into the enclosure. At least most HP laptop hdd's that I have worked on do. Try to wiggle/slide the adapter off the pins. Don't toss it away because you will need it on a replacement hdd for your laptop if you are buying another.
