Good Day!
Please give me suggestions ![]()
Well, when i turn on my Notebook the scrolling function on the touchpad is not working, also other special functions like the finger flicks and stuff.
It will all just work when i go to the control panel, open the software "not making any changes" and click OK.
When i did my research, i cannot find any satisfactory solutions, I just ended up creating a shortcut of the software to my startup so when i open the notebook again from shut down ill just wait for it to load and Click OK again.
Is there any other permanent solution out there, I dont want to be stuck opening the Notebook and have this software always appear so i can just click okay for the scroll to work.
Appreciate your replies! ![]()

Hi Chia,
Check to make sure the Synaptics driver is in the Startup sequence:
Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > System Configuration > Startup >
Scroll down and look for it (you can sort the names, if you like)
Make sure the entry is there AND CHECKED
==================================================
You could try creating your own Profile to help make the settings stick.
If you keep the Synaptics icon in your Taskbar:
Right-Click Synaptics Point Device Properties > Device Settings > Settings
Make sure "Scrolling" and all other settings are exactly the way you like them... OK
Profiles > Click on "<New>" > Enter a Name for the Profile > Ok and Save >
OK
If you lose the settings, you can Load your Profile.
It is my pleasure to assist.

I tried it, it's not working in my end.. Thanks anyway for that info!
I did my own research also, I ended up downloading the current version from the hp site..
just rebooted my notebook it's seems to be working already. Im just too lazy to try and restart it again to make sure haha but as of now, when i installed it, i didnt have to open the system for it to work.. It works automatically! ![]()
here's the link:
Actually you can download all the latest drivers in that site. This is really good all my problems seems to be having a solution..
Just one more problem maybe ill try to do another post for it, its about the power option in the control panel, before i was able to access and change the plan settings, then suddenly a message is showing stating "your power plan settings isn't available" yesterday again its working just fine but again today again im showing this message.. sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Anyone knows how to fix it?

Hi Chia,
The great thing about these systems is that, unless it's hardware, almost everything can be solved by reinstalling "it" or clearing out the chaff. It's not always as easy as your fix, and it's not always painless, but it usually comes down to sorting it out.
They are computers - they just do what they are told to do. It's the instructions that get into a tangle and makes things so complicated!
I'm glad it is fixed!

I've already double checked and Synaptics is checked off as part of the Startup Sequence.
And I looked under the Synaptics settings in the Taskbar and the settings all seem fine.
The only thing I don't understand is making my own Profile. Where do I find this option? Is it under the Synaptics properties?
I saw that chialossus just re-installed the driver. Is there another option before I resort to that? Thanks!

Designated,
I've not heard of anyone using the executable to instate scrolling. I think you are at a point where you might benefit from installing the dirver for your system. Rather than depending on the link shown above, you should download and install the driver for your own computer based on its hardware and operating system.
You may not need to update - it does concern me a bit that you must needs use the executable to control the Touchpad settings. That seems extreme.
NOTE: V7.5 translates to about V15.3.x (as seen in the Device Manager)
- Go to the top of the forum page to Support and Drivers
- Enter your Computer Model information, and then go to Software and Drivers...
- Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu... Scroll down
- Select CategoryDriver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices
- Look for Synaptics TouchPad - Latest Version
- SAVE the package to your computer
- NOTE the name and the location - the *.exe file will likely save to "Downloads “Install the Software / Driver installation package: It will be named *.exe – the package will most likely be located in the Downloads folder. If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.
NOTE: There is sometimes a lot of information at the computer’s website. Be sure to take an extended look at what’s available.
==================================================
One way to open the Settings:
Control Panel > icon view > Synaptics Touchpad V7.5
IF you do not see a Synaptics icon on your control panel (and so cannot open the Touchpad)
then use
Control Panel > Mouse > TouchPad Settings to open the Synaptics Settings
NOTE: This is where you find the “Profile” setting.
==================================================
Another Way to open the Synaptics Settings:
Right-Click on the Synaptics icon in your TaskBar > TouchPad Properties > TouchPad Settings
==================================================
Scrolling After you set up regular scroll, you can set up single finger scrolling.
>> Single Finger Scroll
- Left-Click on the Scrolling where you have it already checked and a little blue wheel will show up to the right.
- Click on the wheel and a new window will pop up to allow you enable and set up the One-Finger Scrolling.
- You can make the scroll region bigger or smaller, too, by adjusting the hashed area in the gray screen.
- Voila!
==================================================
At that point, you can set the Single-Finger Scroll, if that is what you intend to do.
While you are in the Settings, take the time to check everything else.
==================================================

Thanks, Dragon-Fur!
When I originally had this problem last week, I stumbled onto this website: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/822363-syn
I will try your suggestion within the next few days. I'm a grad student so I have a million pages of reading to do until Wednesday. Will definitely try this out when I'm free and let you know how it goes, thanks!

Designated,
Ah, interesting. Well, using the executable makes sense - in a weird way. A workaround is sometimes a fix when all else fails; one uses what one has at hand (so to speak). Smiling.
I hope the driver works as a more permanent solution.
One thing you could try: Simply hit your notebook with a Hard Reset. Sometimes, a Reset cures "what ails ya". I have no reason to think that this is the case here; but it is a cheap fix and takes little time - if it does the trick, you are home free.
Hard Reset:
Sometimes all you need to do is kick the computer. This method works for a variety of connection and ‘stuck’ program issues.
- Disconnect all external devices first.
- Remove AC power and the battery
- Press and hold power button for at least 30 seconds
- Reinstall only AC power for first startup ** See Note
- Power on - Log in
- Next time you shut down the system, reinstall battery.
** Note: You can ignore the bit about leaving the battery out. If you like, reinstall battery the first time and be done with it.

thanks, Dragon-Fur!
Finally less busy from schoolwork. So do you suggest I do the hard reset first or update the driver first? Would the data/files on my laptop be fine after the hard reset?

Does not matter which is first - Hard Reset is good for all sorts of "hung" stuff. Try first - less work. :-)
This is just little driver update - tiny one driver - data and files on your computer will be fine. The only time you need to be concerned about your files is when you are getting big updates from Windows updates and when you are flashing the BIOS.
So.... you do make backups once in a while, yes? Go see the IT group on campus and see how to do simple backups. It can save you big headaches and LOST homework (and maybe the BIG paper of the year) if you have the simple backup done.
Let us know how it goes...
