Open Control Panel. In the top right corner change "View by" using the dropdown selector to see 'Small icons' rather than 'Category' Much easier to find stuff that way, now look for Synaptics where you should be able to change sensitivity of mouse pad.

Do you have an icon for 'Mouse'? If so open it and see if the settings are there. If not,you may need to install Synaptics software. Look in your Start Menu for Recovery Manager and choose the option to reinstall drivers.

Thanks so much....what a relief. Yes it involved having to download the Alps driver, and then it showed up in mouse settings right away.

Could you please give me the exact model number of your notebook so that I can locate the driver for you?
You can use the following document if you need assistance in finding it.
