I have an EliteBook 8740w laptop, and just bought a "Smart 65W Travel AC Adapter" for it. The web site says it is compatible with my laptop. The box it comes in says it is "Compatible with all HP notebooks". It will not charge my laptop.
It is REALLY compatible or not? Anyone at HP have any information on this????

The bus-sized one that came with the laptop is 200W.

But the HP website says that it is compatable with the EliteBook 8740w. False advertising?

When you use the 65W adapter does it say "plugged in, not charging?" And does it seem like it's powering the notebook even though not necessarily charging the battery? If so then this is because all of the power of that small travel adapter is being used just to power the notebook. There's simply not enough juice left to charge the battery.
If this is not the case, and in fact there is no functionality with the adapter when plugged in, then I would suggest contacting HP Home and Home Office for verification of the compatibility of the adapter.
I am an HP employee.

I also bought same adapter for same exact Elitebook 8740w, and unfortunately have the same issue. It seems that when plug in the adapter, the power LED flashes few times then stops. I see in power options that battery is been used and no evidence of the adapter powering the laptop.
Would be interesing if you provide what feedback you got from HP support.
