UEFI on HP DM1z

I'm an absolute noob in this regard so pardon my lack of understanding on this topic

I read on one of the sites recently that UEFI is set to replace BIOS.

Is there a way install it on my HP DM1z?

If yes how do I do it?

How will it help me if I install it?

Cheers

Re: UEFI on HP DM1z

HP notebooks only have a partial implementation of UEFI based BIOS along with traditional BIOS available on the notebook. The HP_TOOLS partition available on your system already provides this option which is useful in running F2 (System Diagnostics) in case of any emergencies when required.

Also HP_TOOLS partition is helpful during BIOS update process in case if you would like to do a rollback etc. If HP_TOOLS partition is not available you can install it from here

Re: UEFI on HP DM1z

Thanks a lot kamat_hp I'll give it a try and let you know how this works.

Also just to add, I had to format the harddisk since I wanted to create multiple partitions to install Windows 7 and ubuntu Studio hence I deleted the HP_TOOLS partition and used the Windows Ultimate Licence I already had. I have the AMD fusion powered HP DM1. However, the link you've given is for dv6. Will this work if I download it.

Re: UEFI on HP DM1z

The link provided above would work on your Notebook as well. The latest version of HP System Diagnostics (UEFI) installer gives an option to either install on hard drive or on a USB flash drive depending on your needs.

Re: UEFI on HP DM1z

The DM1Z came with UEFI from the factory.
