URGENT!! Pavilion dv6-1216sa --broken fan/overheating/metal prop supporting screen

[ Edited ]

Hi I bought my hp pavilion dv6 1216sa in october last year and in the past week there have been problems with the fan. The fan started to spin abnormally fast as a result of overheating, It started making a noise and then there was a loud noise and the fan wouldn't spin, then the laptop got so hot i could smell burning and then the computer automatically put itself on hibernate. I closed down the screen and left the laptop to cool, when i returned i opened up the screen and it was more stiff than usual, then i heard this cracking noise and the joint holding the monitor cracked open on the side where the fan is. I had a closer look and there was 2 pieces of metal sticking out where it had snapped. The metal prop on the other side is unaffected and can just manage to hold up the screen. Now the fan is broken, the laptop gets so hot that it shuts down within 10 minutes. Would a replacement of a fan and the reparation of the prop be covered under warranty? Thanks

Re: URGENT!! Pavilion dv6-1216sa --broken fan/overheating/metal prop supporting screen

I've got the same problem as well i bought mine in october 2009. I've contacted HP in regards to this but some guy on the phone is telling me my warranty has run out meanwhile it hasnt. My fear is that my kids use this laptop under strict supervision and have complained about the heat even though i had gotten a laptop fan which hasnt helped at all and now it totally unbearable with the fan sounding like a car engine. PLEASE I REALLY NEED HELP!!!!

Re: URGENT!! Pavilion dv6-1216sa --broken fan/overheating/metal prop supporting screen

this support forum is nothing.

it tells you nothing

nobody is replying from HP...

what is the point of buying a branded computer and pay more if you get no support when needed.

the only thing that helped was to hack loads of stuff on the computer and not using "demanding software" on it.

Re: URGENT!! Pavilion dv6-1216sa --broken fan/overheating/metal prop supporting screen

If you "google" your problem with your HP laptop, you will see that there are many of us with the same problem...including me. I believe we should start a class action lawsuit against HP for selling inferior products. A laptop should last a lot longer than the laptops we purchased. I have a DV9000 that has a torched CPU and mobo. Replacement parts are over $500 and that doesn't include paying a tech to switch them out. This DV9000 lived for approximately 2 years....wow....

but first you need a class A lawyer. and some money as well... and a good tech expert to show the failures...
