I was streaming an online movie and fell asleep to the movie. I awake to see that I caught a serious virus, In detail:
It erased most of my programs, music, videos, pictures, desktop shortcuts, even my backround picture was erased. WOW!!! My start menu has nothing in it, and It even stops me from using Norton Security and certain programs that I saved. When I try to replace them it just keeps on taking them off. Seriously I'm surprised that I can still surf the web. From time to time pop-ups just overrun the screen, and an message stating that it cant read the amount of space on my hard drive. I bought a new Norton security Disc which was enough to fix Three (3) PC's, that didn't even work. I went and bought a Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager Backup and Recovery Beta Kit and I'm scared of installing it. My question is, Should I just wipe the system and star all over again? If so, How do I do it?? Or is there a better solution???
If theres Anyone out there who has a solution, or some kind of advice please link back up with me.
I have a 32bit Windows Vistas. HP G60 235DX

Hi:
Download the free Kapersky Rescue Disk 10,and burn the ISO file to a CD.
Boot from this CD. That is the nice thing about it. You don't need to be in Windows so none of the virus files are running. You kill it while it is dormant.
Use the graphic interface and connect to the internet, so it can update the virus definitions.
Then go to the settings menu and select it to scan and delete the virus files.
Make sure you check the C drive too where it lists what sections to scan.
Tapping the touchpad doesn't work to select something. You need to use the mouse buttons.
If Kapersky can't delete the virus files, nothing will.

If you do decide to wipe the system, you can do so from the HP Recovery Manager.
As you start the computer, tap the F11 key to bring up the Recovery Manager. This document provides specifics: System Recovery.
