My daughter's HP G72 b66us laptop will only stay on if the power cord is plugged in. We've replaced the battery twice and then took it to Staples to have them check it out. The salesman said that the power condition unit needed replaced and it would cost us $300. I would like to purchase the part myself and have one of the IS guys from work install it for me. Is this a real part and if so, where can I purchase it?

Its part of the motherboard, you would have to replace the motherboard.

The OP included the complete model number of G72-b66US which identifies the complete p/n (product number) as XH002UA#ABA

Hi,
There is a possibility that the DC power connector unit is faulty (sounds like power condition unit). The connector is a field replaceable unit (FRU) and it can be replaced. It is a common part failure for some laptops. Double check back with the tech and make sure that he/she has given you the correct information.
