Will Recovery partition still be functional after shifting from Primary to Logical?

[ Edited ]

My Pavilion dv6 came with Windows 7 64-bit pre-installed, the HD portitioned in MBR into 4 1ry's: Utility (FAT32), System, C and Recovery. I need more partitions for Linux and an Encrypted partition. Now, if I shrink C, backup then delete Recovery, then create an Extended partition harboring Logical partitions can I recreate the Recovery partition from the backup (now Logical)? That is, will F11 still be functional on pressing while booting?

Re: Will Recovery partition still be functional after shifting from Primary to Logical?

Hi,

There is an excellent guide on the link below by Daniel_Potyrala regarding re-partitining your HDD.

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-questions/How-to-repartition-HDD-of-HP-notebook-with-...

In answer to the last part of your question, your Recovery Discs will re-create the Recovery Partition - but this process will erase any custom partitions you have created and your notebook will be returned to its initial state ie with 4 primary partitions.

Regards,

Thanks, your reply partially answered my question, for I was interested to know whether F11 pressing will guide the boot process into the new location of the Recovery Partition without the need yet to use the Recovery DVDs. Regarding Daniel_Potyrala's suggestion, I'd rather delete the "Recovery partition" than the "System". Once more, thanks.
