is it safe to run a computer only on AC power without a battery? Does it helps to increase the battery life?

It will help to increase that battery life if you remove it at @40% charge and keep it in a reasonably cool place.
If you leave it out for a lengthy period at full charge then over time the capacity of the battery will be reduced.

Hi,
It's perfectly safe to run your notebook on the Ac Adapter. If you use it like this most of the time, you can preserve the maximum life of your battey by letting it discharge to around 40%, then remove the battery pack and store it in a cool location.
