Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Bryan,

Many thanks. My blu-ray disc works finally by following your instruction to use Quickplay and fn/f4 to watch it on TV!!! Thank you!! Your said you work for HP. Can you tell someone in HP technical support department this trick so if another customer has the same problem they know what to tell them, instead of spending a few hours doing something else without success?

Now that I can watch blu-ray and dvd, o you still suggest I should download the most updated version of MediaSmart if mine is not the most updated version? You know I am scare to do anything which might affect the ability to watch blu-ray.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Hi all,

I have figured out how to fix the Blu-ray problem most of you are having with your DV7 notebooks not playing Fox BR movies. I hade the screen that said go to cyberlink.com/BDUpdate and then i downloaded the active-x only to find out that cyberlink didnt recognize my software. Well that is there problem and all of yours use this link and download there version of HP mediasmart DVD. Apparently theres is better than the one HP has. http://docs.cyberlink.com/multi/patch/enu/result.jsp?SR=HTS080229-03&ProductNo=HTS00006&AutoBuildID=...

I tried to watch Babylon AD and it didnt work until I used this link. It will make you uninstall your current version witch is more than likely 2.0 and then it will install V2.5 witch is working great for me. It took me 20 minutes of messing around on the net to find this. I spent 500 or so minutes with HP customer support that I have to pay Verizon for just to uninstall and reinstall drivers that didnt help jack. im not bashing HP but you would think that HP would have figured this out and posted it before me.

Bryan and Fish, many thanks for your help. Jakestudd, you are my ultimate hero, I downloaded the upgrade through the link you provided and now it's working flawlessly.

Thank you so much for this!!! I owe you big time!! I hope everyone gets to solve this...I spent countless hours on the phone with HP and they could never find a way to solve this...

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Jake the hero,

Thank you so much for the information. Are you saying after we download the 2.5 version from cyperlink it will solve all these problems:

1)Bryan said currently only Quickplay works for blu-ray. So we don't need to use Quickplay after the download and the movie will play automatically after inserting the disc(the normal way)?

2)It allows to watch all blu-ray? Other people mentioned there are certain blu-ray which won't work even after some fix, for example spiderman 3.

3)I recall when I was prompted to download cyperlink software it also said it will uninstall the current DVD software(something like this) and I lost my DVD software afterwards and I cannot watch DVD either. I called HP and they helped to install DVD software(I believe it's the MediaSmart DVD) back to my laptop.

Thanks.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Fish, sorry to clarify:

Only Quickplay OR MediaSmart will work for Blu Ray. Quickplay stopped shipping late last year. MediaSmart is the replacement and is shipping on the new notebooks. If you already have MediaSmart, you do not need Quickplay.

I just installed the link that shows "2.5" but when you check the version info it still shows xxx.2221 which is the same as doing the upgrade options within the application. Either way will work.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Bryan,

Sorry to bother you again. I thought you mean the button next to the power button when you say Quickplay? I have one on my laptop. Or Quickplay is another program/software? When I press Quickplay button it shows five choices and I click dvd icon and that's how my current blu-ray disc plays.

I tried "not" using Quickplay button and click the Mediasmart icon on my desktop instead and it opens the movie but the screen is stucked on the top left hand corner of my screen and the menu bar at bottom is truncated so some function keys are not accessible.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Bryan, Fish

I dont know why the update from HP didnt work on my computer. weather its realy V2.5 or not is irrelevant. All I know is when i used the update from cyberlink it worked. I dont know if its the fact that when you update from there site they completely uninstall the old version and load the new one, rather than updating the old one. I talked to HP on the phone twice each time for more than two hours. They updated my bios, mediasmart dvd, windows, and tried to find new drivers for my bluray drive. They did all that twice. Fish you dont think you have Quickplay, you probably have media smart and if it runs a bluray and takes you to the Warning screen that tells you to update through cyberlink. Try the link I provided before, it worked for Adrurc and I. As far as the button that says Quick Play on your computer that is set to HP mediasmart not just there DVD player. I know they had a patch for that program on HP's support site but all that patch does is fix the desktop icon.(in my experience in order to play your Bluerays you need to go through cyberlink.)

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Jakestudd - I'm looking into the different downloads. As long as one of them works it is fine for the short term, but HP needs to fix the update mechanism if it is not working properly. Providing input as to which one works properly is a huge help!

Fish - I looked at your exact model last night. You have a unique system, and that is where some of the confusion comes in.

HP includes EITHER the Quickplay software or MediaSmart software, with MediaSmart the newer software.

YOUR specific model has a button on the PC labeled "Quickplay" but the application it is actually launching is MediaSmart. Your PC is kind of "in between" the releases. This is why a lot of us are so confused!!!

The newest PCs have a button with sort of a squigilly(spelling?) line that is the symbol for MediaSmart.

I am looking into the reason why you are getting a different experience from pressing the button as you are from clicking on the icon - but if pressing the button is working best, keep using that for now :smileyhappy:

Again Jakestudd - Thank you for your info regarding the link vs the update. My buddy and I here are doing the update in various ways and then reloading the image to try and understand the issue. We've taken a number of screenshots but I can't attach images just yet so it's hard to explain sometimes.

I will also try to get this information spread throughout the HP support channels, as based upon the experiences posted, there is unneccessary troubleshooting being performed.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Jake,

When I click your link re cyperlink update a screen pop up and said it detected my current version installed is "Touchsmart 2.5 HP"? Touchsmart is another type of computer from HP. My computer is dv7t laptop. Do you have the same message before u download? Do u think it will cause problem again?

Many thanks.

Fish, I have a DV7 laptop as well it worked just fine on mine. If it doesnt work then you can always recover your orignal softwar.
