Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

I have the same problem but I was able to download something from cyperlink. After the download I still couldn't watch blu-ray and I cannot watch dvd either using HP MediaSmart, spent almost three hours with online chat and phone call without solving the problem, I probably will return for a refund. Have my laptop for two weeks.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Can you list the specific movies you are having an issue with?

Is the disc being recognized in Windows? Are you getting to the Main Menu?

Can you also list the version of Media Smart? There is an update to 1.0.2221

Blu Ray is still new enough that they are posting updates to the format every few months. These updates require PC updates to match, and are usually tied to new releases.

Note also that there are a few behaviors that are normal but confusing - although based on your description you need an update.

These update requirements are not unique to HP, all vendors require these.

For Media Smart, the most recent updates will be via the application itself.

This is the document but as of today it is still not updated to cover Media Smart specifically:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01361837&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_US...

I'll see if I can find the instructions for Media Smart update.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Bryan,

Thanks for the information. I tried Blu-ray "Curse of the Golden flowers", DVD-Finding Nemo and Ice Age. All won't work. After your reply I tried other DVD-Star Wars, Shrek and another cartoon movie Muggsy and they all work under MediaSmart DVD. So other than Blu-ray, even some DVD have problems playing, Why?

The Blu-ray disc played for about two seconds and the message "this disc is protected" appeared. I cannot get to the main menu. I tried different ways to see my version of MediaSmart but I couldn't find it. Pls advise.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

""this content is protected"

This is a normal message if you are using "clone mode" with the screen output on the notebook and TV at the same time.

For this issue just press Fn and F4 to switch the output to the TV only.

This is covered in the document I linked to.

What version of MediaSmart are you currently running? Were you able to update via the steps listed above?

On the other DVDs, are you able to see them from the PC desktop? (Exit Media Smart, Click on Start/My Computer and see if the disc is seen.)

For non-DVD you can try to play them in Windows Media Player.

For Blu Ray the only option is Media Smart / Quickplay

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

Sorry, do the following, you do not have to have a disc in the drive:

Open MediaSmart and click on the DVD icon.

Click the gear icon at the bottom. This will open up the Settings page

Click on the "update" tab.

Look at the very bottom of this box, it will have the current version.

You will not see any updates listed, but if you click on the "Update your Mediasmart" button it will show the most recent update.

In my opinion, the application should list the updates without requiring a click on the "update" button, and maybe that will improve in the future.

Re: blu-ray not working on HP DV 7 1264

adrurc,

Follow Bryan's instruction and try the Quickplay button next to the power button. It finally worked for me! Also in case you connect your laptop to the TV(what I did originally), you must press the keys fn and f4 to watch it on your TV. Like Bryan said clone mode does not work for blu-ray disc and you can only watch it either on your laptop or TV, but not both. Hope this help.
