can't reinstall the operating system and window

model:: HP G71-340US notebook.

Operating System" windows 7 64-bit

Error: "Window could not complete the installation. To install window on this computer, restart the installation"

My computer is may be a year or so. It crashed. I tried to use the system repaired dic to recovery the system. It seems to me it won't recognize the recovery dics (3 dics). I remembered very well when I setup this computer: I followed each instruction very well to install 1 dic at a time for 3 dics until the system told me successfully completed all 3 dics.

I don't know why when I tried to reinstall the dics.The error shows can't recognize "the product code", "serial number", and "notebook model" and also there is no product code for "window 7-64 bit operating system". The computer is boot but as soon as starting window; it in a loop kept saying: "window could not complete the installation. To install window to this computer, restart the installation"

I tried to put in the system repair dic, the computer ran thru a cycle and said the same error again. I tried to put in the recovery dics, the computer ran thru a cycle and said the same thing.

I think I need a window dics to fix the problem. Do I ?

I will take any advise. Please help!

You can purchase the recovery disk set from HP or an HP Partner. The cost is pretty minimal compared to the cost of an operating system.  The disks also contain all of the required drivers for your notebook.

Hi, Tina:

You can also make your own W7 installation DVD if you can live with the software that is available on your notebook's support and driver page if you can read the full 25 character W7 product key.

If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.

Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.

Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.

The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Thanks so much for getting back to me.

I brought this computer from Staples. I went thru the whole package that Staples gave me. I couldn't find the Window OS product code 25 characters that you talking about.... I think Staples has them.

I tried to talk to HP. They asked for service fee of 14.99 per month and a commitment for a year which will cost me $180.00 per year.

I then spoke with a supervisor asked for the window 7 OS CD. He hung up on me....OMG, SO RUDE!!!

I think I have to go back to Staples and then they will ask for fee. OMG, everybody just want your money and I don't have any to give....LOL...

You're very welcome.

The product key should be on a sticker on the bottom of your notebook and it should look something like this:

PC manufacturers are required my Microsoft to affix the sticker to every PC they sell, so Staples doesn't have it.

It is on your notebook somewhere. Under the battery or on the bottom of the case.

Hi Paul,

I got the dics from HP.  The recovery didn't work and it lock up my system (computer).

I think I need to activate my window 7. I thought HP would take care of it (the activation of window) when they sent me the dics.

Well, it asked me for adminstor password. I used the one that I used all the time, but the computer couldn't recognize it, so I just hit the "enter" key without type in anything. The system started to run thru a recovery cycle. At the end the recovery was incompleted and unsucessful. Now, it locked up.

Also it says "window can't install, reinstall window....". I put in the application dic that HP. It won't install.

What can I do?  please help!

Sorry that you are having issues with the recovery disks.

I have no idea what you can do to correct the issue.

I have had success with most recovery disks I've used, and on the couple of occasions where I didn't, I just used the method I posted above and made my own generic windows installation disk and used the product key to activate the installation.
