change of the product model for my dv9000

The product model of my dv9000 use to be GD574AV. Same as that shown on the label on the back of the laptop. But somehow it changed to GD545AV without my acknowledgement. Right now my laptop doesn't recognise the wireless adapter, so I cannot make any wireless connection.

Could someone tell me how to change/reset the product model number of my laptop?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

In some cases, the notebook BIOS may display the wrong product number. Please refer to this article for further information.

@gerleu123

Hi,

Go to:

Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Netowrk adapters

and check is your wireless card listed there. If you:

  • see it there then double-click it and check what kind of ' Device Status ' it have.

  • do not see it then perform a Hard Reset:

           1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards.
           2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 1minute.
           3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (do not connect the battery), press the Power button and check is this issue fixed or not.

When this will not work then you've got a hardware problem.

If you live in US then you should be interested in checking proposed NVIDIA GPU settlement. You are very lucky because your

laptop product number is on the affected models list. Your problem is one of Identified Symptoms per Settlement Agreement.

There is one quick and not so expensive solution on this problem. You may buy USB wireless adapter.

Re: change of the product model for my dv9000

I also have the HP dv9000 that seems to have conflicting product numbers. I have the Nvidia chip problem where the motherboard overheats and the chip melts.

On the tag underneathe the laptop it has p/n GD574AV, but checking on the laptop in "system info." it shows p/n GD545AV.

Unfortunately, neither product number is covered under the current class action lawsuit! There is a model HP dv94xx with the p/n GD545AV but mine and the poster above have model dv90xx.

Note: when I have contacted HP customer service they could never find a record of my laptop with either p/n or s/n either.
