data does not transfer from scanner to notebook occasionally.

When transfering scanned slides or film from my hp Scanjet g4050 the photos are either transfer and are fine or there is a white or black photo instead. Seems the scanner has scanned the slides or film but the notebook is not getting the image. What is wrong or what can I do to fix this?
