dv6000 Sleep Mode

I am unable to wake my dv6000 out of sleep mode. The system will enter sleep mode and the power button will blink blue but nothing happens when I press it/any other key.

The only error message related to this that I can find in event viewer is this:

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." (probably from me ripping the battery out of the back)

And I am on a Dv6000 with Windows 7 Home Premium 32.

Thanks for the help!

Re: dv6000 Sleep Mode

I am having the same problem with my dv6000 (dv6810us, to be exact).

I've owned my notebook since July 2008, and started having this problem at the end of February 2010. When I close the lid, the computer goes into sleep mode (like it has done for the past 2 years), but when I open it again, it will stay in sleep mode forever. The power indicator lights all flash and do what they would normally do when the computer sleeps, but when I press keys on the keyboard, or swipe the touchpad, or anything like that, the computer refuses to wake up. I even try to hold down the power button to do a manual restart, but nothing happens. The only way to fix this problem is to unplug the power cord and remove the battery to kill the machine. I then plug it back in and restart from there. If I close the lid again, the whole ordeal repeats itself.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

BTW, I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2.

Re: dv6000 Sleep Mode

I discovered that disabling VT in the bios fixed this for me.

Re: dv6000 Sleep Mode

I checked the BIOS, and VT was already disabled. So I just set my computer to hibernate when I close the lid, and this seems to work okay. My computer seems to run a bit faster, too!

what is "VT" in the BIOS?  is it pretty straightforward to disable it? (i can navigate through the BIOS fairly easily)

Re: dv6000 Sleep Mode

[ Edited ]

VT is used for virtualization, I think it stands for "virtual technology", but I could be mistaken.

It is usually disabled by default, and if you don't know what it is, odds are that you do not need it.

Re: dv6000 Sleep Mode

BMDsherman is correct; VT is hardware virtualization, and would need to be enabled if you planned to download and use Microsoft Virtual machine and Windows XP mode.

MS won't download it's version of  virtual machine, and Windows XP mode unless your prcessor supports hardware virtualization, hence the need to enable it.

If you don't plan to use it, you won't need VT enabled.
