I purchased my Pavilion dv6000z through the HP Store, 7 Arp 2007...20 Mar 2008, my system board went south and was replaced. I was given no reason for replacement and my system board is now a dv6200. I then purchased the 4 year HP Care Pack, and was given 3 yrs at a 4 yr price.
Then just over a year later, 6 Jul 2009, the system board went south again. I received my dv6000/6200 back on 23 Jul 09, stating the system board was replaced, thermal pads and my hard drive re-imaged. 25 Jul, I went to boot and same issue, boot to black blank screen, no option to access BIOS or Safemode.
I used the HP Quickdock thinking I could use an external monitor and I could not. I never ever received the BSD, Black screen error messages or Microsoft had to shut down due to system recovery from a serious error.
So I am waiting to return my dv6000/6200 for its 4th motherboard in just over 2 years. I learned today after calling a Case Manager, there is an inherent problem with the video chipset.
Does any one have a suggestion what I can do to remedy this on going issue...because now I have no idea how long the next motherboard will last, if I shut down or place in Hibernation/Sleep mode, the Notebook will not wake and all the hours of updating and re-installing software and configuring same and Vista will be a waste of time.
I feel the only solution other than buying another Notebook, which too could have an inherent problem, is to open my Notebook casing and allow the system board to breathe freely, reducing the chance of heat build up and component failure. And I also have and try to use the TV Tuner, which really gets hot. So I no longer use the Tuner.
Thank you, please contact me and I can share more on what I have learned about this problem.....Doc
