Re: dv7-3085dx Bios updates

I saw that this board helped some hp users fix the bois problems on their laptops.  I currently bought a HP Pavilion Slimline s5280t about 45 days ago.  I have not been able to sync either iphone, and am currently getting no where with both Apple and HP.  I have tried everythign recomended on Apple's website and HP's.  Could you please let me know if I could use any of the Bois updates you provided with my computer to fix this issue.  Thank you for your help

Re: dv7-3085dx Bios updates

OMG you have no idea what I went through with HP over the phone about when I updated to the new bios on my DV8t (f.12) and then ended up with the Fan running all the time on high, they just did not get it!!!!!!

Thank you so much for posting the simple fix of resetting the bios, my gosh you think the guy on the phone would have known that?? on second thought look what happened with the iphone sync issues.

I am still alittle bit reluctant to try and sync my iphone, think I may wait to see what happenes to everyone else and read the replys.

Thanks again for the great help here that I could not get out of the HP guy

Re: dv7-3085dx Bios updates

I have updated my dv7-3085dx with the F.13 bios and it syncs with my iphone beautifully.  I also have an Amazon Kindle e-book reader.  The Kindle normally shows up in the Computer window along with other fixed and removable disk drives, but I cannot get it to show up there so I can move files to and from the Kindle.  It does appear in the devices and printers window as Amazon Kindle.  I can get a removable disk to show up in the Computer window, but when I try to access it I get the message "F:\ is not accessible.  The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Is anyone else having similar issues?  Has anyone solved this problem yet?

Ron,

I was the first poster that applied the BIOS update to my dv7t-3000 CTO notebook within hours of its release.  I noted the same problems you had, although I did one thing differently that may have avoided the extent of the problems you ended up with.

I had the problem where my fans went nuts right after the patch finished running and then when I rebooted, it brought up a BIOS screen saying that my system had been running at critical temperatures and that I should make sure the fans were not blocked, etc.  It allowed me just to press any key (or something to that effect), but I immediately went into the BIOS setup to ensure that the update had been applied.  I didn't even save any changes to the BIOS (by pressing the ESC key to get out), but just made sure it was updated to F.13.  It seems like the key may be to make sure if you're having the fan problem is to go into the BIOS itself.  That may just clear up the problem.  Maybe the testing on the patch wasn't complete or didn't include enough different units to catch this problem.  So, although you were told to go in to the BIOS setup and save the settings, it may be enough just to go in to the BIOS setup and exiting without saving.  That's just a guess, but it seems reasonable and I hope HP will look further into this issue since it does seem to be affecting a number of people (and then HP Support is clueless, as usual).

As far as waiting to sync your iPhone, I can't give promises.  But, it seems that no one has reported problems who have the configurations listed here that the BIOS patches would apply on their system have had their iPhone/iPod Touch issues resolved.  I've been working for over a week without a single issue and I'm comfortable that it's fixed in my case.  The problem with the fans may just have been a rush to release the patches before Christmas and not extensive enough testing (although, that's speculation on my part).  I think it's worth a shot to sync your iPhone, especially if you have a backup of your iPhone on another computer that you can restore from if there are problems.  I had to do this multiple times when trying various suggestions before the patch was released (going back to my old iTunes computer to restore my iPhone when the sync on HP failed).  I've read all the posts since the release of the patches here and no one has mentioned any problems with syncing an iPhone except if they have a model that the patch would not update their BIOS on.  Since you had a BIOS update, you should be fine (but again, I can't promise anything and making sure you have a valid restore on another computer should fix any issues a failed sync on the HP might cause).

It's your decision, but you've got to try the waters sometime and I think many people have had success and not posted that fact.  It's just the people with problems that have posted the most.  This was my first post after I reported the first success within hours of the BIOS patch being posted for the group of models.

I hope this helps!

Jim

Re: It appears to be fixed for the first group of users!

[ Edited ]

Thanks a bunch to everyone here. I only got my Dv7t laptop on Monday and tried syncing my iPhone today - to no avail. After installing the new BIOS and the error message about high temperature everything seems to be good...

...except that the fan doesn't stop running. It's only a very faint hum, but it's on constantly, even if the laptop is idle. The fan switches off when the laptop goes to stand-by, but comes on as soon as I start up the laptop again. It certainly didn't do that before the update. I also went into the bios setup, but don't want to start messing around there. I saw that "fans constantly on" is enabled. Should that be disabled? In another discussion I read that won't make a difference, though. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Claudia

Re: It appears to be fixed for the first group of users!

My dv7t-3000 has always (before and after the BIOS upgrade) had the fan always running ad the fan always on set in the BIOS.  Now there may be multiple fans or different fan speeds becuase during the BIOS upgrade it definitely kicked into overdrive, but since the update it has resumes its normal hum.

I also have temperature monitoring software installed and the machine tends to run warm, so I do not mind the fan running,  The CPUs hover around 50C and get hotter when used.  The GPU (graphics card) concerns me as it hovers around 60C and spokes up from there.

Re: It appears to be fixed for the first group of users!

Can someone please help me to stop the fan running constantly after I installed BIOS F12 to allow my iPhone to sync in iTunes.

How do I reset the fan settings?

Thanks in advance.

DV8 huh? Same as me. Yep, had the same problem, updated bios and fan RUNS AT FULL SPEED constantly. F10 on boot to get to the bios, reset to default. Reboot, and viola, problem solved.

There is a setting in the bios to "Fan is Always on: Enabled". Prior to my restore, I changed this back and forth and it had no effect. After the restore to defaults, I set this to disabled, and it works great. I am using CPUID Hardware monitor to watch temps, and sure enough, fan kicks in when hot, is silent when cool. I also turned virtualization support back on in the CPU so I can run XP mode.

So.....

1. F10 on boot, restore bios to defaults.

2. Go back in, set "Fan is Always on: Disabled" and set whatever other settings back to what they need to be.

3. Reboot and fan is fixed.

Re: dv7-3085dx Bios updates I have found a workaround

It worked! It worked! It worked!

Thank you to everyone who has been working on this issue.

I love my dv7-3085dx entertainment notebook, but I was having to back up Outlook and put the pst file on my older HP notebook in order to get my calendar onto my iPhone for the past six weeks.  What a pain in the butt!   I'm so glad you fixed this.  Based on the posts here, it's clear that HP needs to pay better attention and give creedance to its advance end user base.  These guys knew there was a problem early on, and support blew them off.  Thank you to the guys (and gals) who hung in there to get the attention of the technical folks and get it fixed.
