Re: dv7 fingerprint reader not working

Hey there,

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-6c01ea and the finger print sensor is not working.  I am unable to find the relevant drivers/etc from the HP website.  Any advise would be appreciated.  The device was purchased in the UK.

Thanks.

Re: dv7 fingerprint reader not working

This has been very frustrating. I've tried to follow the steps outlined above and Windows keeps installing driver version 4.05. and SimplePass doesnt see the fingerprint scanner. Can you walk this through, step by step? Assume that I'm a software user and not a person that builds PC's. Windows 7 64 bit HP DV7-6C27CL

You are having issues because you tagged on the end of a thread meant for someone else's hardware... You cannot use the Digital Persona software for your computer.  You'll be OK.  Smiling.  You just need different "stuff".

Try the method below to get the software for your computer...

NOTE that you probably already have the right driver - you can double check at your webpage.  You may only need to get the right software to go with it:  SimplePass 2011 5.4.0.402

=========================================================================

Assure that you have copies of your driver and SimplePass software installation packages:

Go to the top of this Forum page - to Support and Drivers

  • Enter your notebook model number
  • Open the HP web page for your Product / Model
  • Go to the Software and Drivers Downloads page

For example... You can start at YOUR webpage:

Software & Driver Downloads - HP Pavilion dv7-6c27cl Entertainment Notebook PC

  • Enter your Operating System
  • Scroll down - Go to category Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices
  • Select “Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver” (Newest Version)
  • Save the installation package onto your computer.  Make a note of the file's NAME and its location.

If installing the SimplePass Software:

  • Go to category Software - Security section and click to open it.
  • Select the SimplePass package
  • Save this installation package onto your computer.  Make a note of the file's NAME and its location.

  • Install the Validity Sensor Driver installation package:  The package will most likely be located in the Downloads folder.  If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.
  • Install the SimplePass Software that you downloaded.  The package will be named sp*.exe and will most likely be located in the Downloads folder.  If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.

Remember:  Install Drivers FIRST - THEN the software.

Why?

Because the hardware has to be connected to the driver so the software has something to talk to.

I hope this helps...
