dv9000 notebook battery life

I have owned an HP dv9000 series notebook for about 2 years and the status of my battery is in poor condition.  Is it typical that battery lifetime is only 2 years? Since I keep my PC plugged in most of the time, does it wear on the battery? I just want to know if I should just buy a new battery or should I check to see if it is covered under the warranty.

Thanks

Re: dv9000 notebook battery life

I will save you the trouble. Even if you get the longer warranty the battery is not covered padt 1 year generally unless you got the store warranty on top of the HP warranty. 2 years is not a bad life of a battery. That is about what I expect to get. Battery life is governed by the number of charge and discharge cycles but also time since manufacture. If you take a battery that is new in the box it will be weaker after 2 years than when new even if you do not use it. If you literally never use the battery you can remove it while running the laptop on AC power. Discharge it down to like 30% and store it in a cool, dry dark place (but not the refrigerator).

Re: dv9000 notebook battery life

depending on how often you drain and charge the notebook, 2 years is pretty respectable on a modern 6 or 8 cell notebook battery.
