dvd discs not recognized

@3 weeks ago the dvd began not recognizing inserted discs when playing or burning.  Not sure if it was associated with any updates.  Have gone through the support page list with no success; looked through some of the forum posts yet help page no longer active on one and unable to locate one post which had lengthy bios info... .  too tired to look further so any suggestions would be appreciated.  thx

Hi

You have a couple of options as I see it please finf the solution given below might resolve your issue.

First go to Device Manager and uninstall the DVD driver then restart the unit and check.

Fix problems with CD or DVD drives that can’t read or write media

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing

I have done the hp support list from checking bios ie it shows internal cd in boot up

have run automated fixit

have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers

have used various types of writeable discs

it still will not recognise that a disc is inserted

I believe that my problems started about the time I upgraded windows media player 11

in windows explorer it shows e drive for my dvd drive and I do not receive any error msg other than please insert disc *for both burning or viewing*

from my limited knowlege it tells me that the dvd drive is working properly

any other suggestions?

I have also used hpsa to update system files etc

What the hay... it is recognizing dvds now... hope that it continues.  thanks
