Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

So if I buy a esata cable and use it with my dv6t, the laptop will be able to provide power supply to the external sata device, right? How can I tell a cable is esata or esatap? Are most cable in the market esatap now or majority are still just esata? Thanks in advance.

Try wykopedia, they show pictures of what the different usb, estat and estap ports look like.
