fingerprint reader does not work after full battery discharge

My Pavillion DV7 laptop fully discharged its battery and sat for two months. Once it got recharged the fingerprint scanner didn't read my finger. I tried the password entry and it said it didn't recognize the user name or password. What has happened? What do I do?
