how to turn off pavilion mouse pad?

Had this HP Pavilion laptop for about 5 years now. I run windows XP. I would love to turn off or lock up the mouse pad so when i'm typing i'm not constantly moving the mouse all over because my hand runs over the mouse pad. I'm not sure where in XP I can do this and have been searching for sometime now.

Thanks for any help,

Re: how to turn off pavilion mouse pad?

Normally this is done in mouse settings in Control Panel, there would be an extra tab in there for the touchpad software, were you can disable it.

Re: how to turn off pavilion mouse pad?

Set control panel to Classic view, there should be a mouse icon now.

There should be an extra tab or two on the mouse properties in control panel to configure the touch pad.

Don't you have a Touch Pad button?

Check this out and see if this helps.

Re: how to turn off pavilion mouse pad?

unfortunately when I click on my mouse icon it says, "Control Panel Extension is incompatible with Driver Version." I have no idea what that means? maybe I need to call HP? And I checked for any "F" key that would work, but had no luck there.

Re: how to turn off pavilion mouse pad?

actually I just hit the "OK" button and up popped mouse properties. However, there is no touchpad option for tabs. all the tabs have deal with wireless or scroll ball mouses, pointers, scrolling and stuff like that. No touchpad mentioned anywhere?  AAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! such confusion=(
