how to use external hard drives with a chrome book

so this is my first notebook, and I have kind of a weird, external hard drive. its a wd "my passport" 2 tb external. It's got a lot of my goods and my main bulk of photography work on it, so I need to get it going. Although I'm not sure what type of app to use to fire the running unlock program, I wasn't anticipating this lol. I didn't fully understand the way the the chrome os interacted with things like that at first. so yeah, i could use some advice on apps for integrating and using external hard drives in tandem with this os, so thank you, and I'll appreciate the feedback.

Re: how to use external hard drives with a chrome book

well informational yes but it hasn't quite solved my problem. the drive itself has an autolock sequence on it, so it needs to be unlocked before it can be accesed, on a windows computer it just does it all automatically through the autoplay settings. but on the chrome os it doesn't want to recognize it, so, yeah I think i need a web based app, if there is one? to run the unlock file?

maybe?

or allow me to acces different types of file running software?

i dunno

it may just be that i can't use it at all on this device and I need to upload the bulk of my stuff to google drive.

I'm foggy on whether or not i can run programs though?

can i use google drive to run programs? can you run programs from external devices on chrome os?

questions arise minutely as i go on with this thing. I like, im just not used to it.
