laptop tries to start then cuts off. it will repeat this process continuously

I have a problem with a Pavilion dv6000 with Vista Home Premium 32bit.  The laptop starts with all LED's glowing and the fan spins, then it immediately shuts back down.  After 5 seconds it tries to start again and shuts down.  It will repeat this cycle continuously until I remove power cord and battery.  I cannot find any information about this symptom.  By the way, I actually have two Pavilion laptops with this symptom so I am very curious to find out what the problem is and fix it.  Thanks in advance for any help...

are you using the correct power supply?

most probably system board is fried up.

Try checking the memory modules by removing them both and placing one module in the lower slot.

Power on the notebook to see if it boots up normally.

If that does not work then try the same module in the other slot.

Do the same thing with the other module.

This is efffectively testing the memory modules and the memory module (soDIMM) slots. If you find that it boots up with one module then you hae found the culprit that was causing the no-start condition.

I am using the power supply that originally came up the unit and I have tried two other power supplies and it keeps doing the same thing.  Thanks for your speedy reply!

can you check the light  in the side where you connect the ac adapter if it is lit up?

Yes the blue light is on.

it seems that motherboard is faulty. if it is still under warranty you need to call tech support to send nb for repair

Thanks for your reply unfortunately the warranty is out on both laptops.  I found it strange that they each had the same symptom and I thought there might be someone who had this experience before.  I reckon these two will have to be used for parts...

Whoa. Hold on before you do anything rash. The other guy may have run out of ideas but I have not.

1) Remove the Battery, connect the power adapter and try booting into Windows

2) Try removing the hard disk and then booting up into Linux (perhaps Ubuntu) on either a Live distro on CD or usb thumbdrive.
