The OS on laptop with non functioning mouse is Vista-32 bit. Mouse works in Safe Mode so not sure what the problem is.

Cannot use online troubleshooting tools.

After all that!  Smiling.

Well, it just proves the easy fix is usually the right fix.

I will leave the text for someone else who might have a broken TouchPad.  Smiley Happy

I am glad it is working.

Good Luck!

Hi,

Consider / Try reinstalling the TouchPad driver.  This driver from Synaptics has everything you need and is available for all Windows Operating Systems, including yours.

Synaptics TouchPad Driver:

If you like, you can use the Synaptics TouchPad driver from the Synaptics website.  Select the driver for your Operating System (for example:  Vista - 32/64 bit).  This synaptics TouchPad driver has all the features one can imagine for the TouchPad.

It is awkward, and takes some practice... If your computer has it, you can use "Mouse Keys" in place of the mouse.

From the keyboard:

Windows Key > Start / Search window > type "Ease of Access" > Click to open

Tab > Tab around to get to "Make the Keyboard easier to Use" >

At Section "Control the mouse with the keyboard" >

CHECK "Turn on Mouse Keys

Tab to "Set up Mouse Keys" >

Set up as Desired... INCLUDING

CHECK Turn on Mouse Keys with left Alt + left SHIFT + NUM LOCK

To Start Mouse Keys:

left Alt + left SHIFT + NUM LOCK

From the Keyboard:

Windows Key > Start / Search window > type "your browser" > Click to Open...

=========================================================================

MouseKeys is not fun and it is not easy - ask anyone who has to use it... but it works.

How to Use Your Computer Without a Mouse

The alternative is to buy, beg, or borrow an external mouse.  That is the easiest workaround.

I hope this helps!

Actually I have an external mouse and was able to go into mouse settings from the control panel.  Somehow the touch pad became disabled. I enabled it and I'm good to go!
