Re: my compaq presario cq56 will not boot up windows

Hi,

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

Re: my compaq presario cq56 will not boot up windows

I did that earlier and they are both fine.  I am running a system tune up right now.  So far.. Memory -passed, smart check-passed, short dst-passed, long dst- in progress.

This is my daughters computer and I fear it may be a virus!!

I will post back.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Ok, let me know the result of the long dst test.

Is there anything in particular that leads you to believe this may be the result of a virus?

Could you also include the full Model No. or Part No. of the cq56 series notebook and the version of Windows you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

Regards,

Re: my compaq presario cq56 will not boot up windows

 Hi,

As you mentioned before that this may have been caused by Malware, follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable CD which you can use to scan your notebook and hopefully remove any Malware.

http://connect.microsoft.com/systemsweeper

When this has completed, see if the notebook will boot or if the issue remains unchanged.
