pavilion dv6000 remote control not working

Hi I have a hp pavilion dv6000 series (dv6423om is exact model number) with the remote control that fits in the slot next to the cd drive.  Recently I noticed it does not work at all with the computer.  I did a test someone told me about with a digital camera where you point the remote at the camera and you can see that the remote laser is doing something, and it worked for my remote, so I don't think it is a problem with the remote but rather with the laptop.  I have run hp update recently so I don't think it is a driver (although it could be.) Is it possibly a setting in the bios? has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it?

I have the same problem.

Via chat I asked an HP agent and she gave me a link to download a driver, but that didn't work. Another HP agent told me to do a full system recovery... Haven't tried it but. I just bought this machine from a friend of mine and have not been able to use the remote control.

Hi, just fix my remote control yesterday,How? i have called HP and told them that my remote control it is working fine,just tried it on another laptop does work fine, The mother board was renewed on my laptop and they said it may not be connected very well ,OK search the hp for the manuals how to dissemble, open the front cover ,back cover,all the screws from the board ,and take out the ir sensors and the plugs ,one screw,one connection,it was connected but ,the trick was to invert the plug ,out from one end back on the other end, Voila works fine now,

But my spdif sound does not work, i m connecting the HDMI cable to Sony bravia and get a nice picture but no sound,it used to work before the M board was changed,any suggestions? tried already lots of things .

The IR remote has stopped working on my HP dv6000 as well. The actual remote itself is fine but there is no IR *receiver* listed in device manager, and I can't find any bios setting to enable/disable this hardware.  It was working some time ago and, like others, I've updated the bios which I suspect is the culprit.  I have had a useless reply from HP trying to sell me a restore CD.  There is a restore partition so I don't need this anyway.  But if the hardware has been disabled by the bios upgrade then a windows restore won't help.

Has anyone been able to contact someone at HP who actually knows what they are talking about? Or is there a way to downgrade the bios to an earlier version?  Can anyone who hasn't updated the bios please confirm that the IR receiver *is* listed?

I got mine working again. The problem for me was really stupid; it was the battery... even though  the remote seems working fine according to digital camera test (which has distracted me.. ), the problem is  just it has not enough power for the receiver on the laptop. I was sure that I hadn't used the remote battery to be died so soon, but I noticed that if you leave the battery in the remote control it dies by time even if you don't use the remote control once... so try a brand new battery with the remote, and I hope yours will work too..

Thanks for the info about a duff battery.  Like you I would have expected it to last a little longer than that!

Could you let me know what version of Bios you have and if an IR *receiver* is listed in device manager please.

This will help with the diagnosis of my problem.

I have the lastest bios update from the support site ( something like f3d..). I am using windows7 and there is nothing in device manager such as an ir receiver, maybe it is named something else,  there are  lots of " HID-compliant consumer control device"s, " HID- compliant device"s, HID-input device"s and "direct application launch button"s...

Hope you get rid off that annoying problem soon.. (;
