stolen laptop-can the serial number for my hp dv6 be found if all i have is a reciept from best buy?

my laptop was stolen and i dont have the serial number for the laptop. i contacted best buy and all they have for their records is a reciept of purchase. So i have the reciept and am wondering if HP can find the serial number for me. The laptop is an HP dv6 and was bought from best buy around 5 months ago

Im finding it a bit of a pain to just send an email to someone following that link or on the hp site itself in general.

could you please help? I keep trying but am getting no where. the hp site just keeps leading me on and on to different windows. It either asks me for product number, which is what im trying to get, or it assumes the comp. i need help with is the one im using now.

             Do you still have yuor Best Buy sale receipt? If so your computer serial number is on it. Least here in Maine they put it on there. It is the long number you see on your slip. That is your serial number to your lap - top o.k.. Hp does not help track down stollen computers. Did you register it with HP? You should have received a confirm email with all your computers information on it. Your product number is the make of your computer HP DV6- ???? ?? on your lap-top box. Example mine is HP DV7-6135dx. You will need to contact local police department and check you neighborhood pawnshops and triftshops and see if someone has pawned it. Chances of getting it back are slim to none. Next one you get make sure you put lojack on it. This  a install  hidden gps locator and is not only use by but to law officals as well. All so Best Buy puts a bid tag on the lap-top box as that has all your laptop information on in. That is the big sticker witch is white and a color top. Mine is white and purple. After reading your post, I think i might go ahead and bite the bullet and pay the outrageous $59 for Lojack for my HP dv6 3250us laptop, which i love btw :-)

I would love even more to catch the jerk and put him in jail if it ever gets stolen!
